Our story
Built by Neural AI, Malta's AI and data engineering specialists
Neural AI started in 2020 as a small digital agency working across industries in Malta. One pattern kept showing up in project after project: government departments, banks, and service platforms running on English-first systems, in a country where a huge share of daily life happens in Maltese.
Generic AI models treat Maltese as an edge case, if they handle it at all. NeuroMaltese exists because we decided that wasn't good enough for a language with half a million speakers and a real legal claim to being Malta's official language. It's the most widely deployed product in our NeuroStack, and the one we're most protective of getting right. See why generic models fall short.
That focus traces back to co-founder Kurt Abela's PhD in Artificial Intelligence, where his doctoral research on natural language processing for low-resource languages centred specifically on Maltese. That work made him one of Malta's early builders of data-driven Maltese chatbots, and it's the academic groundwork NeuroMaltese is built on.
